Peggy Lee (1920-2002) " Music is my lifes breath"

Peggy Lee was an American jazz singer,composer and actress in a career spanning six decades. From her beginnings as a singer with the Benny Goodman big band,she forged a sophisticated persona evolving into a multi-faceted artist and performer.She wrote music for films,acted and created conceptual record albums encompassing poetry,jazz,chamber and art songs.


Peggy Lee is now regarded as one of the most influential jazz singers of all time,and although she had a string of successful albums and top ten hits including," Black Coffee,"Lover," Why dont you do right",Is that all there is" and" Someone else is taking my place",in three consecutive decades and a recipient of three Grammy awards,she is today internationally recognised for her signature tune" Fever."


Born in North Dakota of Swedish ancestry,Peggy came to prominence when noticed and engaged by Benny Goodman with whom she stayed for two years,and it was while in his band that Peggy met,fell in love with and married Goodmans brilliant guitarist Dave Barbour a marriage that was to last for nine years.
